What Families Are Saying

“It is hard to put into words the level of gratitude I have for Marissa and the care that she has shown me and our family. I was first under Marissa’s care at a birth center for my first baby, and immediately felt safe and taken care of. Fast forward to my second pregnancy, we found out that Marissa was solely doing home births and I knew that this had to be our path. Every prenatal visit felt professional, informative, but also so comfortable it felt like a friend coming over to visit. I had my dream home birth last week thanks to Marissa and her team, feeling safe and cared for during every beautiful and hard moment. Thank you Marissa for everything you do — we are forever grateful that you were a part of bringing our babies earthside.”

“Marissa is hands down the BEST! My husband and I really wanted to have a natural home birth. I reached out to multiple midwives, with most not even responding. Marissa answered right away and we set up a virtual appointment less than 24 hours later to talk about services and expectations. After a 20-minute conversation, I knew she was the right midwife for us.

Marissa did many of my prenatal appointments and never got upset when I doubled up and still saw my OB too. I was an extremely nervous first-time mom and wanted all hands on deck. Now knowing what I do and having the experience I had, I regret those extra OB appointments. I trust Marissa’s expertise, knowledge, and opinion way more than my OB.

Unfortunately, baby and I struggled a few days after birth, but we were lucky to have Marissa. She went above and beyond to help us. I was scared, stressed, and sleep deprived. Marissa stepped in and did as much as she possibly could and then connected me with the right specialists. She even joined us for the specialist appointment. She advocated for us and asked all the questions I needed answered but didn’t know to ask.

Throughout my whole experience with Marissa there was never any judgment or negativity. I had a million questions and she answered them all without hesitation.

If you are looking to have a homebirth, Marissa is the midwife you want supporting you through this journey and catching your baby. I know she will be my first call if I am blessed with another pregnancy.”

“I hired Marissa for my third pregnancy after two previous homebirths. I wanted to try a different midwife this go around, and was not disappointed at all when first meeting with Marissa! I really loved how confident and experienced she was. She was also very interesting to chat with, and pick her brain! She really knows a lot! I loved talking about birth with her.

She’s an extremely capable, caring, and proactive midwife. She really cares about keeping homebirth safe as well. And I knew if things were to have gone wrong, thankfully they did not, she would have known exactly what to do. I felt very safe and cared for. When I was in labor she was very helpful with setting up our bed, helping with the birth tub, and making the room baby ready. And was wonderful at helping clean up after baby was born, and taking care of everything so I could just relax with my baby and husband.

I really, really enjoyed my birth experience with Marissa. When we had our last appointment I genuinely missed seeing her! I would tell my husband daily how much I enjoyed having her as part of my pregnancy and postpartum appointments. She really is a wonderful human who wants to help women birth their babies the way they want, while also keeping things safe. She balances all-natural birth with the medical world well, and I highly recommend her!”

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about midwifery care and what to expect working with Evergreen.

What is a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)?
A Certified Professional Midwife is a credentialed midwifery professional who has met the standards set by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). CPMs are specifically trained to provide care in out-of-hospital settings, including homebirths and birth centers, and are experts in normal, low-risk pregnancy and birth.
Am I a good candidate for a homebirth?
Most healthy, low-risk pregnancies are excellent candidates for homebirth. During your initial consultation, Marissa will review your health history, pregnancy details, and personal goals to determine if homebirth is a safe and appropriate option for you. She will be transparent and thorough in that assessment.
What happens if there is an emergency during my homebirth?
Safety is always the top priority. Marissa carries emergency equipment including oxygen, IV supplies, medications to manage hemorrhage, and neonatal resuscitation equipment. She maintains a collaborative relationship with local hospitals and will transfer care immediately if a situation arises that requires a higher level of care. Most transfers are non-emergency and planned in advance.
How many prenatal visits are included in my care?
Your care package includes a full schedule of prenatal visits following the midwifery model — typically monthly visits early in pregnancy, increasing to every two weeks and then weekly as you approach your due date. You also receive continuous support during labor and birth, and postpartum visits in the days and weeks following your birth.
Does insurance cover homebirth midwifery care?
Some insurance plans do cover out-of-hospital midwifery care, though coverage varies widely. Marissa can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. A $1,000 deposit is required to hold your spot, with flexible payment plans available for the remaining balance.
What is placenta encapsulation and do I need it?
Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing your placenta into capsules for postpartum consumption. Many clients report benefits including improved mood, increased energy, and better milk supply, though individual results vary. It is entirely optional and available as an add-on service. Marissa offers three encapsulation options to fit different preferences and budgets.
How do I get started?
The first step is to reach out for a free consultation. Marissa will answer your questions, learn about your pregnancy and goals, and help you decide if Evergreen Midwifery Care is the right fit for your family. You can call, email, or use the contact form on this site.
