About Marissa Davis

Hello! I am Marissa Davis. I am a New Hampshire Certified Midwife and Certified Professional Midwife. I am from Northern Minnesota. I grew up in a small town named Grand Rapids. I moved away to Duluth, Minnesota. I fell in love with Lake Superior and enjoyed many recreational opportunities the lake and surrounding areas had to offer. I have since relocated to Southern New Hampshire. I have been here for about 5 years now.

I have been involved with birth work since 2010. I started my birth career as a doula. My sister introduced me to the idea that there was more to having a baby than just going to a hospital. Within weeks, I was enrolled in doula training. My first birth was on Thanksgiving night in 2010. It impacted my heart and soul ever since. It was a beautiful birth. I knew I had to help others try to achieve a similar experience. My next couple of births solidified that for me even more. I furthered my education and career over the next 8 years by adding in childbirth educator, HypnoBirthing educator, lactation counselor, and midwifery assistant.

In 2018 I enrolled at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College to get an associate’s degree in Direct Entry Midwifery in addition to the bachelor’s degree in Management from The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minnesota. I completed my midwifery apprenticeships in Minnesota, Indiana, Oregon, and New Hampshire. In 2020, I stayed on as a staff midwife at The Birth Cottage until the fall of 2024 at which time I opened my homebirth practice.

My practice model is based on informed consent where you get to choose what parts of the care are best for you and yours. I believe in the midwifery model of care. I love that I can provide an option for those who want more control over their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience

Midwifery Model of Care

  • Monitoring the physical, psychological, and social well-being of the mother throughout the childbearing cycle
  • Providing the mother with individualized education, counseling, and prenatal care, continuous hands-on assistance during labor and delivery, and postpartum support
  • Minimizing technological interventions
  • Identifying and referring women who require obstetrical attention

The application of this woman-centered model of care has been proven to reduce the incidence of birth injury, trauma, and cesarean section.
